Welcome, newcomer!
Here are some useful tips to ease you into the Wikipedia experience:
- First, take a look at the Wikipedia Tutorial, and perhaps dabble a bit in the test area.
- When you have some free time, take a look at the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines. They can come in very handy!
- Remember to use a neutral point of view!
- If you need any help, feel free to post a question at the Help Desk
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Also, here are some odds and ends that I find useful from time to time:
- Wikipedia:Policy Library
- Wikipedia:Utilities
- Wikipedia:Cite your sources
- Wikipedia:Verifiability
- Wikipedia:Wikiquette
- Wikipedia:Civility
- Wikipedia:Conflict resolution
- Wikipedia:Brilliant prose
- Wikipedia:Pages needing attention
- Wikipedia:Peer review
- Wikipedia:Bad jokes and other deleted nonsense
- Wikipedia:Village pump
- Wikipedia:Boilerplate text
Feel free to ask me anything the links and talk pages don't answer. You can most easily reach me by posting on my talk page.
You can sign your name on any page by typing 4 tildes, likes this: ~~~~.
Best of luck, and have fun!

Archiving talk pages
Thanks for taking the initiative to cleanup the old talk page (from here). However, there are a couple of things that might be a bit better. The first is to only cleanup old messages. Something from the 28th (my warnings) is a little too recent. Additionally, the typical way to clean them up is to create an "Archive" in that talk space and move them there so they are easy to find. If you'd like assistance/recommendations on how that is done, just give me a holler. Oh, and welcome. :) Wikibofh 00:05, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Re: Archiving Talk Pages
I'm not actually 100% sure of the proper format or protocol to use here, but anyway, that IP address (198.169.140.30) happens to be my school. We, as students, regularly use Wikipedia (even though use of it as a proper source is banned, because of the Wiki aspect).
I have cleaned it up (again), just tell me if it's properly done. Cheers.
- Now that was very well done. :) I move the archive link to the top of the page, but other than that, you did a great job. :) Wikibofh 01:26, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- BTW: I suspect your school doesn't allow Wiki for use as a primary source. It is an excellent resource as a secondary source. Wikibofh 01:46, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Hmm...actually, I'm not sure what the *school* policy is, but most of the teachers who are aware of Wikipedia disallow it as a formal source (primary or secondary). However, it is permitted as a research aid and lauchpad for further research.
- ...and that is a great policy. :) Unless it's about an article I wrote (don't worry, I don't really write any) in which case bollocks! :) Wikibofh 02:01, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
I have a slight problem: I still cannot edit anything from my school address due to blocking :( The Wikipedia page was just vandalized too. Oh, and so has Utah Grizzlies (1995-2005). nneonneo 15:30, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
- Unblocked. Wikibofh 15:35, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I have reblocked User:198.169.140.30. 11 cases of vandalism today to Ku Klux Klan. You're going to have to start talking to the school admins to get them to crack down on this. Wikibofh 15:51, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- I understand. The problem is that the IP is for the whole school district, or about 20000+ (?) students. Maybe it will be impossible to prevent the vandalisation of Wikipedia from our school district. However, it is unfortunate that the ban affects registered users from that IP too. Banning the IP permanently seems to be the only option. nneonneo 21:39, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- My hope is in a future version they make it so that banning an IP only prevents posts from that IP, not logged in users that are also using that IP. I don't know what the status is there though. I'll try to keep them reasonably short. Wikibofh 21:51, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Genesis_1-1_in_Afar.gif
Thanks for uploading Image:Genesis_1-1_in_Afar.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 09:28, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
