Background information on this poll

[edit]

(Describe the arguments that led to the creation of poll here.)

The question

[edit]

Should the violence article discuss infant circumcision? (If this question's language is not suitable, let's use the talk page to discuss it.)

The positions

[edit]

(This section describes the positions of the parties involved in the violence article. Any outside positions and alternatives proposed by third parties should be listed in the Other subsection of the Votes section, where they may be independently endorsed.)

Yes, the violence article should discuss infant circumcision.

[edit]

Rationale: (Place reasons for desiring inclusion of the material here. Please do not sign.)

No, the violence article should not discuss infant circumcision.

Voting guidelines

[edit]

(The list of guidelines I have placed here are tentative, subject to the approval of all parties involved.)

  1. Please only vote for one of the four options listed below. To avoid confusion, any duplicate votes will not be counted.
  2. Parties involved in the editing of the violence article are explicitly allowed to vote. (Should they? Maybe we should abstain so that we can truly gauge the community's opinion? And if we disallow ourselves, who exactly is disallowed? Me? Rhobite? DanP?)
  3. In order to avoid stuffing the ballot box and accusations of sock puppetry, the votes of anonymous users and users whose contribution history is less than two weeks old at the time of this poll's opening will not be counted, though such users are free to add comments. (For me, the threshold is unimportant, but I feel that adhering to this guideline is important in order to give clear, undisputed results.)
  4. Voters may change their vote at any time. If you choose to do so, please either strike out or remove your old vote in order to avoid confusion.
  5. Voting will begin at 12:00:00 AM on (opening date) and end at 11:59:59 PM on (closing date). At that time, all valid, non-abstaining votes will be tallied, and whichever option receives the largest number of endorsements will be considered to be the community's consensus and will used as a guideline for future edits to the violence article by all parties involved. However, if it becomes clear that more than one option has received a significant number of votes, an attempt will be made by all parties to reconcile the most popular positions.

[edit]

In order to avoid the problems of push polling, those who feel that neither a "yes," "no," or abstaining vote are entirely suitable may list alternative proposals here. Anyone subsequently endorsing such proposals will be considered to have voted for them.
