Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
You might find these links helpful in creating new pages or editing existing articles: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.
If you want to see what other users are doing at the moment, have a look at recent changes. This is a good way to find random articles you might be interested on working on, or you can simply enjoy reading what other wikipedians have to say. Every article has a Talk page (like this one) where you can raise questions or suggest a direction for an article to take. When you make edits to a page, it's a very good idea to add a few words to the summary field to let other users know what you just did (anything from typo to rewrote article)!
If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!
- If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
- You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: fabiform | talk. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
- If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
Again, welcome! :) fabiform | talk 14:52, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

hi ferkelparade, just wanted to mention, that it is quit difficult with german "slangs". it might be ok with the weisswurst/weisswürscht, cause it was invented in munich. but should the english wikipedia link to the brezel, brezn or breze? you spent time in southern-germany i guess? greetings from munich, Softeis 20:17, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Weisswurst btw: I HATE "Weisswürscht"!!!!!! ;-) greetz. Nicky knows e 20:19, 5 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Hi guys, one could say I spent some time in Southern Germany...was born in Schwäbisch Gmünd, grew up in Swabia and have been living in Munich for about 10 years now :P anyway, spellings of German food stuff are always comlicated, see Talk:Weisswurst for the Weisswurst. About Brezen: I once had a long discussion about the correct spelling here. I changed the link to Brezen because there is already an article at Breze, and I don't think we need a second one at Brezen. Maybe we need a couple redirects from Brezel, Brezen etc...?
Was marking the addition of a vfd here marked minor on purpose? You might want to reconsider that policy, it is after all rather a significant event in an article's life and should definately be noted by everyone watching the article. --fvw 12:34, 2004 Oct 20 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry, my mistake...shouldn't edit while I'm on the phone, I guess... -- Ferkelparade π 12:37, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Sant_Cassia You may see that the votes for deletion have come up, many times for the page listed regarding Sant_Cassia, I object to the edit wars which have been placed, and object the pages creation and its links. The information is owned by the Sant Cassia Family, copyvio was added because there is no referencing to any information given or taken from other web sites. There is a difference between knowning what is correct and making things up to discredit people.Ghariexem[[User_talk:Ghariexem|
- A couple of points in reply:
- There is nothing wrong with objecting to the contents of a page if it is factually incorrect, misleading, slanderous or whatever - just go ahead and edit it, or place it on VfD if you think there is no merit at all to an article. However, just blanking a page without comment is not acceptable under any circumstances, and I have not seen any real reason why the article in question should be deleted.
- Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the previous VfD history of the artile, but if it survived several times already, it looks like there is in fact no solid reason for deletion.
- Placing an article on VfD and on speedy at the same time does not make any sense and makes you look like you're wildly thrashing around in an attempt to get rid of an article - I removed the speedy delete notice because being listed on VfD is enough.
- And lastly, the copyvio notice was pure nonsense - copyright violation is a rather specific, narrowly-defined term that does not apply in this case.
- Cheers, Ferkelparade π 15:26, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Points noted , yes i object to it all, and when i have done in the past, it just gets reverted, or edited again by the same person everytime. Im not a great whizz at wikipedia, sorry for the quick copyvio and quick deletion notices. we object to the person editing and changing the page, the sant_cassia page is fine , just the links out of it. ghariexem
VfD Correction
[edit]Thank you for fixing The Ravaged VfD page. I bolded delete because the original author had written it in caps, which appeared to mean that he wanted to highlight it, but in hindsight I do see how that could be misleading. Thanks for the catch. Skyler1534 23:25, Oct 20, 2004 (UTC)
Isbjørnklubben
[edit]Actually, I erred. Isbjørnklubben has its headquarters in Hammerfest, not Stavanger. The only way I know to join is to go to Hammerfest, which I got to via the Hurtigruten. It is also called "The Royal and Ancient Polar Bear Society". They have a gathering in Hammerfest every September, basically a community fair, I think. The Isbjørnklubben is devoted to preserving not only the population of polar bears, but also the arts of polar bear hunting. My main activity is wearing the very warm wool baseball cap with earflaps with the society name (in English, alas) and a picture of a polar bear embroidered on it, but I also have a certificate of membership.
- From http://www.hammerfest.kommune.no/english.html: "The Royal & Ancient Polar Bear Society Is a museum aiming to show Hammerfest¹s long and proud traditions as an arctic hunting town. A visit here can be concluded with signing an exclusive membership in the club."
To me, the most striking memory I have of the north of Norway is the chronicles of the devastation wrought by the occupying and then retreating German armies in World War 2. Ortolan88 18:07, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Sibiu article
[edit]hi there Ferkelparade
I'm reverting the article prior to your copyvio warning. you should have discussed with the author of the Sibiu article before issuing the copyvio warning. Criztu 14:50, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- No, please do not just revert. As I just said at WP:CP, this does not solve the copyvio problem at all - when you just revert over a copyright violation, the copyrighted text still remains in the database (not in the current article, but in the edit history), and all legal problems arising from the copyright violation still exist. It admittedly sucks, but when someone decides to paste copyrighted text into an otherwiese decent article, we can only delete and rewrite to get rid of the copyrighted stuff. And please don't accuse me of ruining the article, I just spotted the copyright violation - blame the anon user who pasted copyrighted text in the first place. -- Ferkelparade π 14:56, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Have you consulted with the author of the SIbiu article, before issuing the copyvio warning ? the article was written in 2003, while the only material susceptible of copyroght violation is the Turism paragraph, which you could have easily erased without compromising the whole Sibiu Wikipedia Article Criztu 15:02, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Well...that's exactly the problem: you cannot erase material from the edit history without deleting the article. The only solution is to place the last good version of the article at the "Temp" location that is automaticlly created when an article is tagged as a copyvio, and wait for an admin to clean up (delete the oricinal and make the temp page the new article). I admit that the Sibiu article has been sitting on copyvio for too long without anyone taking action - I'd do the cleanup right now, but unfortunately I am not an admin and cannot delete the original article :P -- Ferkelparade π 15:08, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
i see what you mean, but i think you should have consulted the Wikipedian who wrote the article in 2003 prior to anything else. It is perfectly possible that the site you concluded the information was stolen from could have easily copy-pasted from Wikipedia Sibiu Article ... what should we do next, erase whole Wikipedia because of countless websites that copy-paste from Wikipedia without mentioning that ? Criztu 15:14, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
i appologise for reverting the article ... user Icebox seems to have copy-pasted from www.sibiu.ro and providede the link to this official site... what should we do ? we have to put the article online Criztu 15:22, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Hmm...your best bet right now would be to do all the changes you think are necessary to the temp article (that already exists and contains a version prior to the insertion of copyrighted material) and contact an admin to do the cleanup. A list of admins can be found at Wikipedia:List of administrators. Cheers, -- Ferkelparade π 15:31, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
:) I apologize for being unsure of what to do exactly in the situation created by Icebox copyvio on Sibiu article. the following sentence is taken from Wikipedia:Copyright problems - Pages where the most recent edit is a copyright violation, but the previous article was not, should not be deleted. They should be reverted. The violating text will remain in the page history for archival reasons unless the copyright holder asks the Wikimedia Foundation to remove it. See Wikipedia:Page history for details Criztu 16:37, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. I always assumed it was standard policy to delete articles with copyvio material in the history because that's what usually seems to be done on WP:CP and because it makes sense from a legal point of view. Bit I see there seems to be no general policy on that and there alrady was some discussion on this. So it seems in this case it's indeed okay to just revert to the previous version (before the copyrighted material was insterted) and work from there. Sorry for the confusion :P -- Ferkelparade π 17:01, 5 Dec 2004 (UTC)
The Humungous Image Tagging Project
[edit]Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)
Congratulations!
[edit]Congratulations! It's my pleasure to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. You should read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, banning users, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other sysops, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful. Cheers! -- Cecropia | explains it all ® 19:45, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing
[edit]Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
City Island
[edit]I disagree strongly with your renaming of City Island in the comma style. See Talk:City Island, New York. -- Decumanus 17:59, 2004 Dec 11 (UTC)
- I apologize if I maybe moved the article prematurely; as you've already noticed, I performed the move after it was requested on Wikipedia:Help desk. Would City Island, Bronx, New York be an acceptable title? -- Ferkelparade π 01:54, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that's the best title really, because the article is more about the neighborhood than the geographical feature. See Talk:City Island, New York. -- Decumanus 02:03, 2004 Dec 12 (UTC)

i'll create a jammer stub then.thanks! Xpendersx 14:11, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hi Ferkelparade (whatever this name is supposed to mean), you got me wrong on practically all counts and I'm glad that I can clarify things.
First of all, User:KF/For future reference is for my future reference and therefore does not contain any headers, explanations, or whatever. It is the exact opposite of a to do list—it's a list of articles other people have already written which I find interesting, useful, good, excellent, debatable, funny, eccentric—whatever. I'm not planning to add anything to any of the articles there unless they are stubs.
Secondly, my own writing has been met quite often with exactly that phrase: "How can this ever be NPOV". See, for example, Talk:Losers in literature (now renamed, but I don't remember the new title), Talk:Remake, or Seminal work, which I had expanded greatly and which was considered so POV that it was put on VfD and actually deleted. (You can find a salvaged copy farther down at User:KF/For future reference.) With my comment I was poking fun at Maveric149 et al., not commenting on Schicksalstag. You should let sleeping dogs lie: If a NPOV fanatic discovers your article that may very well be the end of it.
All the best, <KF> 21:23, Jan 4, 2005 (UTC)
I spotted the little edit war on the Bush article. I'll be happy to counter-revert if and when MONGO reverts. This would probably put him in a position where he has to either use other methods of dispute resolution or risk blocking under WP:3RR. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 14:11, 18 Jan 2005 (UTC)
You better watch out too..
[edit]Don't warn me...I warn you...I see nothing about the George Bush page which is balanced and factual...the entire page is a slander....maybe you would feel more at home (being from Munich) if I went into the Adolph Hitler page and, utilizing the words of still active Nazis, provided evidence from cheap published books that Adolph was actually a nice guy that loved all men and had nothing to do with the murder of millions of people....this would be no different than what you bunch of angry liberal fools have done to the George Bush page.
You must be drinking too much beer again
[edit]I will do whatever I wish. I have violated nothing and it is you that arrogantly believes that others are to be denied the right to edit if their edits do not fit into your idea of truth. You know nothing about George Bush aside from what misinformation and falsehoods you propose to include as fact. No one would dare claim him to be brilliant or the best leader ever, but I'll take him any day over the likes of what runs most of the rest of the world. He therefore deserves to not be slandered by the likes of you. I could have made adjustments to a great deal more of the George Bush page...and may still do so. MONGO
- Uh...thanks, I quite like my beer, preferably brewed the Old European way :) but seriously, the allegations exist and have been all over the media, the book exists and the sources mentioned in the paragraph are real and verifiable. The paragraph does not make any claims that these allegations are true, but just deleting it and pretending the allegations don't exist at all won't make them go away. You're of course free to make any edit you wish to articles, but so are other editors whose opinions might differ from yours - in the end, what we're aiming for here is a consensus everyone can live with, not unilateral deletion of stuff you find slanderous. -- Ferkelparade π 13:53, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)

The reason I make this request is that the title is a pun on the quote "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!", and "Bad Jokes" is a much better pun on the word "Badges" than "nonsense" is. Thanks for your involvement in BJAODN! Kevyn 17:54, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

That's one thing I don't get about you right-wing types - either you believe in what that party stands for, but then you'd better stand up for what you believe is true and don't be ashamed to call yourself a right-winger, or you don't believe in all that stuff, but then why defend the NPD?
- Oh, and let's keep discussions to English on en.wikipedia :P -- Ferkelparade π 18:09, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Rock carvings and petroglyphs
[edit]There is not much needed to improve the article. Basically, I think it should use the term 'petroglyph' instead of the more amateurish 'carving' (note that the carving in lead is in fact a link to the petroglyph article). The rest of the article seems correct - i.e. it recognized the petroglyphs (carvings) as pre-writing, and just significant symbols. I have made the change in lead and changed my vote to 'abstain' - but I'd appreciate if you could expand this a little more. I generally feel that a good FA is always above the 32kb boundary. I am sure you will make it with the FA soon - good luck. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 11:18, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

Jew
[edit]How could you consider my edits adding links to critics of jews to be revertable. Every other topic has links to those critical of it, See White Nationalism, as an example. There are many millions of people who are critical of Jews, and you had no legitimate reason to delete my links.
- Sorry, I completely disagree. There's broad consensus against including links to JewWatch on the Jew article, as has been demonstrated countless times before when the issue cropped up. As for the people "critical" of Jews, there's a link to anti-semitism and related articles in the infobox at the top, and I do not see how any more "critical" links are needed on that article. -- Ferkelparade π 09:10, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Would I be allowed to revert that one a fourth time?
[edit]Hi, thanks for catching on to my little "revert war" on the drug article. Would I have been justified in reverting that one yet again without running afoul of WP:3RR? I'm not entirely sure if adding commercial links constitutes "simple vandalism". Sjakkalle (Check!) 09:50, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Hej Sjakkalle, I didn't so much notice the revert war as accidentally stumble upon it in recent changes...anyway, Wikipedia:Vandalism mentions "Adding inappropriate external links for self-promotion", so you're not bound by the 3RR rule in such cases. I have left another message on the anon's talk page, and I'll block him for a while if he continues. By the way, I don't think it's that rare that we agree on Vfd pages :P -- Ferkelparade π 10:04, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Well maybe not. I just can't remember many VfDs where I have cast a vote concurring with you. I remember the TCS Victory nomination and since then you might be one the users I have secretly tagged as "I always disagree with this one on VfD debates" which is a purely subjective and unjustified tagging. Nonetheless, that nominination is the main reason I got some insight "behind the scenes" on Wikipedia. I remember you saying "good to see you decided to stick around nonetheless", but ironically, I think that if this had not happened I wouldn't have been here at all! Anyway, thanks for your response, and I'll keep it in mind the times I'm RC patrolling. Sjakkalle (Check!) 10:15, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
By the way, regarding that anon who kept adding that link... I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that he has stopped adding the link to the drug article. The bad news is that he added that link to Wiki [2] and Hunter S. Thompson [3]. I have reverted him (again) but need an admin to block. Sjakkalle (Check!) 10:39, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. I know you're an admin and I'm not, but I can't help thinking that your 'technical' breach of 3RR is, in fact a breach, because POV is not (usually) vandalism. Anyway, I'm not admonishing you, but I do wonder what should be done. -Splash 00:35, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
- Seeing as he seems to have died down I guess the problem has subsided for now anyway. I noticed there was a lot reversion going on in the edit history, and I'm sure I saw a similar IP flash by with something about Bush and threatening to wilfully vandalize. I was surprised that they actually asked what references were though, in their last edit summary — I wonder if they are actually going to go and look something up?! Anyway, I'll leave you alone now (btw, I did leave the anon a message too, so I didn't just pick-on-the-admin). -Splash 00:48, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
QNX Music - Vanity?
[edit]Simply because I'm not a household name doesn't automatically make my entries a case of vanity. Why did you nominate my page for deletion? According to Wikipedia's policy, vanity authors write about themselves (of which I say nothing more than my birthday), their significant others (which I say absolutely nothing about), or their school teachers (of whom I say nothing, neither). Furthermore, the policy states that vanity itself is not a basis for deletion. Wikipedia's policy also states that vanity pages don't get many hits, but you reached mine the day after I posted it. It is simply an article about the QNX Music Chart, which, nevertheless does exist, even though it isn't a household name, and is notable enough to have received 484 hits since June 1st.
-Sebastian Prospero, Wednesday, July 13, 2005, 4:18 AM UTC
- Feel free to disagree, but 484 hits in 6 weeks does not come anywhere near notability for a website - I operate a couple of low-profile music/band websites that receive that amount of hits per day, and I would not dream of writing Wikipedia articles about them. The fact that I noticed your articles almost the moment they were created is explained easily by your extensive spamming of links to the QNX article all over Wikipedia (although I must admit that changing the "list of one-hit wonders" articles from being based on Billboard to being based on QNX was quite bold and funny - nonsensical, but funny) and by the fact that many editors here monitor all newly-created articles and try to sort out the ones that are not encyclopedic. You are of course welcome to voice your opinion at the Vfd pages for both articles, but I wouldn't expect many people to agree with you -- Ferkelparade π 06:27, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
I strongly agree with Ferkelparade. Stop spamming us with your chart and be normal please! - Nobody

Why the redirect. There is a hollywood cinematographer who, while not as famous as Hugh Samuel, is certainly worth mention on Wikipedia.

[edit]hey, who do you think you are deleting my page on Snooby? That page was just as relevant as most of the other stuff on this site? you sound like an academic type but why do you think you have the rite to delete other peoples contributions to this site? Don't waste your time criticising and deleting other people's work! - Bib. Hero
I agree with the last statement, who do you think you are??? You deleted my page for no good reason and added 'Asshole who adds himself to wikipedia' on my page. So what if I didn't have a user page back then? Your just like any other no good flamer - Xin
- Just a quick note on the last comment, "asshole who adds himself etc." was the content of the article I deleted, not a comment I left on any userpage or anywhere else. Please try to read before assuming everyone is out to get you :P -- Ferkelparade π 08:42, 23 November 2005 (UTC)

How the h*ll did that happen [4]. You caught me in a goofy revert situation. I guess I better take a break. --Supercoop 17:32, 30 November 2005 (UTC).
- Heh, no problem...I was watching the situation for a while already, there were several anons trying to remove that sentence who were instantly reverted by admins and other users :P Took me a couple of tries to finally get my edit through, with several edit conflicts. Ah well...with the amount of vandalism the article gets, it's no wonder we're all getting a bit revert-happy as soon as we see an anon edit :) -- Ferkelparade π 17:58, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Are you sure? There may have been a fluke in the system causing some of us the see a cached version(?). When I reverted the bad sentence was clearly being added. The other user saw the same thing [5]. Ehh well that was crazy; maybe it was some Vulcan mind trick. --Supercoop 03:26, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
Admin Intervention
[edit]You removed an anonymous vandal from the "Administrator intervention" page; your reasoning being that the person had not vandalised since the last warning.
Firstly; the "last warning" was a *repeat* final warning. The user had already been sufficiently warned previously. This was VERY CLEARLY the same user in all cases. (Look closer at the evidence if you wish to dispute this).
The warning was included because, if someone had wanted to complain about it having been more than 24 hours since the last warning (*strictly* speaking, this is what is meant to happen with "admin intervention"), it would make it easier the next time it happened. It should not change the fact that the user has had previous warnings.
However, I had hoped that a little more common-sense would be shown. This user was clearly a vandal, and even if the inclusion was not strictly in accordance with the rules for inclusion on "Intervention", this did NOT mean that it was against the rules for blocking.
In fact, it's a very *clear* case for blocking.

[edit]ERP
[edit]Since you have edited Enterprise resource planning, here is a courtesy notification that I have updated the article, and its talk page, since your last activity there. I have tried to repair what I view as an unfortunate WP:POV, or historical bias, but I still need to address a better way to present information about commercial software, open source, and homebrew. Many facts about ERP are true in one of these three main areas, but totally wrong for the others.
I asked about disadvantages style in December 23 section of Help Desk whose first response cautioned risk of WP:NPOV. There is a potential need to show several commonplace WP:POV that can otherwise risk article contamination, if not acknowledged. User:AlMac|(talk) 22:30, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Flamarande + Crisis of the Roman republic
[edit]Hi Ferkelparade. There is a article which seems to be quite suspicious to me. It is Crisis of the Roman Republic. First of all it has no sources whatsoever. [edit]Hi Ferkelparade,
Könntest Du da was für mich arrangieren?
Wär toll, wenn Du mir ein neues Passwort über meinen deutschen User per Email schicken könntest:

[edit]I have noticed that you have asked user 195.188.216.131 to stop vandalising pages esp. the links section of The Williamson Tunnels. There is also a personal attack aimed at him on the Childwall article. I hope you can do something about this. Thanks.
Human sacrifice in article Ancient Rome
[edit]Umm, would you mind taking a peek at the garbage being added by a persistent anonymous there? I risk running afoul of the 3‑revert rule, so am casting about for help, once I stupidly allowed my goat to be got by it. Leaving aside the issue of the level of importance to be attached to the question in the ancient Rome entry (at best, a footnote under the Religion section), the guy reverts even to his typos and falsehoods. . . . I did a partial cleanup, which I put in the narrower article Religion in ancient Rome. More cleanup is needed, but jeepers, my time is better spent churning out continuing chunks of Lacus than fighting the stubbornness of some anonymous person who is none too well informed. I'd clean up further, but won't do so if this is the reception that gets, endless reverts and time-wasting. This is a crystal-clear example of why Wikipedia articles almost never attain excellence, rather oscillate around a level of popular mediocrity and half-truths. .nbsp;.nbsp;.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Stefaneriksson_mugshot.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Stefaneriksson_mugshot.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Iamunknown 02:19, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "prod" template to the article Zero Point, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. [edit]I forgot to check back to the entertainment reference desk and didn't have a chance to thank you and the others for contributing and helping me with this. So, here you go, my thanks! Good to know there's some other guitar players on here who I can always run to for help ;)

Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Ferkelparade! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 5 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the unreferencedBLP tag. Here is the article:
- Susanne Osthoff - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File copyright problem with File:B17_kg200.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:B17_kg200.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Rockfang (talk) 04:04, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Hochschule fūr Kunsterzeichnung, Berlin 1933-1937
[edit]Dear FP, your solution of "Kunsterziehung" looks quite plausible. It fairly confirms my suspicion that a careless transcription is to blame, compounded by our staff's imperfect (understatement) knowledge of German. Many thanks! -- Deborahjay (talk) 11:12, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

MSU Interview
[edit]Dear Ferkelparade,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 19:19, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]Hi Ferkelparade,
Thanks for your offer to translate lb:Bernard Molitor! That would be much appreciated. Speakers of Luxembourgish seem to be in short supply around here. It's not at all urgent, so please take your time.
Best wishes, -- Hex [t/c] 11:00, 20 September 2012 (UTC).
Baseball Bugs and Medeis
[edit]Hi Ferkelparade. You made a brave and thought-provoking suggestion at WT:RD. But did you notify the two users in question when posting? I looked through the logs of both users' talk-page, and didn't spot it. Bugs at least, and I think Medeis too, have a habit of removing comments they don't like quickly, so I might have missed it. This little note from Bugs to Medeis suggests they weren't notified:
- "The ref desk nannies are looking for scapegoats now. (Although Jayron, as usual, is the voice of reason.) And they've not considered this point: if they ban us from the ref desk, they'll have to find somebody else to yell at. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 15:06, 25 May 2013 (UTC)}
I know as well as you do that both users watch WT:RD. I still think a notification would be in order, considering the drastic action that was proposed. And BB's comment i quoted above shows (1) his reversion to the aggressively defense behaviour that he has been criticized for previously, and which he IMO to a large extent has refrained from, until Medeis entered the scene, and (2) his total lack of insight into the problem that you tried to address. I'm a bit hesitant about participating in the thread itself, I think some kind of action ought to be taken, but your solution was a bit harsh IMO. --NorwegianBlue talk 23:52, 26 May 2013 (UTC) Trivial edit 06:27, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Notifications are required at WP:ANI. Not required at places like the ref desk, although it would be a good courtesy. Anytime you post anywhere it goes on your watch list unless you override. I don't know what Medeis is doing, but he has responded neither to the ref desk talk stuff nor to my comment you cite above. Being wiser than me, he's probably ignoring all of it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:32, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- P.S. I can't speak for Medeis, but the part of your statement that reads "Bugs... [has] a habit of removing comments they don't like quickly" is incorrect. I almost never rub out stuff from my talk page, except for juvenile obscenity like that one sock added last night. I archive nearly everything, ranging from the highest praise to the harshest criticism. That is, I keep only the most current comments on my talk page, and the archives are an extension to the talk page. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:38, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
