Thanks
[edit]Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my userpage earlier today. Cheers. 23skidoo 07:53, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Me too. Thanks for reverting the vandal, you got watchful eyes. =] LG-犬夜叉 00:33, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)
"Unfairly skews VFD votes"
[edit]FYI, VfD is not supposed to be about majority voting. It is about checking whether a consensus that an article doesn't belong in the encyclopedia can be formed. If there are a substantial body of contributors that do want such an article kept, then it shouldn't be deleted, however they learn of the deletion debate. Pcb21| Pete 14:42, 6 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Common English usage
[edit]You didn't ove it to common english usage. The locals would ask which one. Justify you change nexttime, also explain why multimap disagree or is their english not common?--Jirate 00:50, 2005 Mar 7 (UTC)
Question on resolution
[edit]Do you know or perhaps do you know someone better to ask that may be able to answer whether Wikipedia has any sort of requirement for display resolution? An article I work on a lot was recently changed to make a line of pictures (that are fine in 1024x768) smaller so they don't make the user scroll horizontally in 800x600. I've seen numerous articles on Wikipedia that are more suited for 1024x768 including some featured articles such as Christianity. ?? Just wondering if this is something I should look out for in the future. K1Bond007 01:12, Mar 7, 2005 (UTC)
Hi there!
[edit]Could you let me know why you reverted the message left by Grider on my talk page? I'm sure there is some humanitarian reason for it, but I'm in the dark. Thanks, Mark Richards 20:57, 8 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Pic of the day
[edit]Hi Dan,
Just to let you know that you picture Image:Sake barrels.jpg is up for reuse as Pic of the Day on 13th March. I've reused the caption from the last time, but you can make any changes at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/March 13, 2005. -- Solipsist 22:07, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Vfd wording
[edit]"this article's entry on the Votes for Deletion page" is a bit confusing, since that wording dates back to the days when there was indeed a single monolithic Vfd page and each vote was a subsection.
But now the link goes to a subpage, so that wording is confusing. In any case, we have automatic links to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion on every such subpage, and it's also linked to from the guide.
I see you object to "click here" so I reworded it, but I think we should have some kind of dead simple and plain instructions to click on. The people who create vanity pages or other candidates for VfD are often clueless newbies, so we should make the instruction as straightforward and direct as possible. -- Curps 23:49, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Temple photo
[edit]I really like this image. It is still crooked - about a quarter degree counter clockwise. You can see this by drawing a horizontal line on the distant shoreline. jk 16:15, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
198.199.189.14 vandalizing pages?
[edit]I am responsible for 198.199.189.0/24, a message was left from this user on Wikipedia for .14 asking someone to stop vandalizing pages. Can you please tell me which page(s) were vandalized and when? .14 is a proxy server used by most of the office, and I would like to determine which user it was. I have a very dim view of defacing public resources and I won't allow my users to do this. I can be emailed at dseagrav@lunar-tokyo.net or dseagrav@nh-central.com

Page move
[edit]I just moved Colleges and Universities of Chicago to Colleges and universities of Chicago. You have a link to the former at User:Rdsmith4/Images; I wasn't sure if I should update it myself so I'm letting you know here. — Knowledge Seeker দ 09:27, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Dan. Just dropping by to say that your support vote, and confidence in me, is very much appreciated. Currently I'm carefully exploring my new powers :). Best regards, — mark ✎ 22:27, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Chemical kinetics
[edit]Hi! I must have changed the article titled "chemical kinetics" to a redirect to Chemical kinetics moments after you deleted it, making Wikipedia think that I had created a new article. In this case a delete is much better than a redirect so please delete it again. Thanks, JeremyA 03:01, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Reverted vandalism in my talk page?
[edit]I believe you just reverted a nasty bit of vandalism to my talk page. That's fine - but I'm curious as to how you spotted it: you reverted it even more quickly than I could, and I got notified when it landed! - DavidWBrooks 01:58, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Rovoam
[edit]Thought I should let you know formally: this morning I unblocked Rovoam's username and reset the block on one of those 16-bit subranges to expire at the same time as the other--around 1300 GMT today (ie about the time of writing of this message). Rovoam would probably normally be blocked for life for his recent actions but there is an ongoing arbcom case and I think he should be allowed the opportunity to present evidence in his defense, so the one week block was probably not appropriate. Please apply shorter blocks (a few hours) as and when necessary. I'm applying to arbcom for an emergency injunction, for what it's worth. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 13:13, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Hi there, just wondering why you removed the details of fastest laps and pole positions at the Swedish Grand Prix article? Would've thought they were notable enough to be included? Worldtraveller 17:36, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Help!
[edit]Would you please block the vandal Mukhtalif2000? I can't believe how he keeps destroying everything I've written. Please see Dhahran (History) and Saudi Aramco (History). Both were vandalized but only the latter is corrected by other users.Eagle 17:02, Mar 20, 2005 (UTC)
Sucession.
[edit]Heya Rds.
Please don't use Template:Succession, but rather Template:PeerNavbox or bits made with Template:Start box, Template:End box, and Template:Succession box &c. for British Peerage, Royalty, officers and politics stuff - there are two different styles, and all the British articles use the latter rather than the former.

GWBush
[edit]Saw you were dealing with the GWBush vandal problem. Main George W. Bush page still seems vandalized (the image) even though the image has been reverted. Same for you? If so, what should be done? -SocratesJedi | Talk 04:03, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Nevermind. Changing the page slightly forced the squids to reload it. Fixed now. -SocratesJedi | Talk 04:08, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
What's your source for the FIAV 54 code? The World Flag Database gives 38, and Whitney Smith's Flags Through the Ages and Across the World (1975) gives 04.

- I've amended the page so it mentions all three.

"inappropriate external link?"
[edit]Dan, I do not understand why you refer to my use of the site as "spam." I have added a link to a documented essay on the connection between nuclear power and nuclear weapons manufacture. It is an entirely appropriate and legitimate link. The only reason I can think that you may find the link to be "inappropriate/spam" is that you may be unaware of the connection. If you would like to understand this connection, please read the article. It includes footnotes for reference. Dr. William Koontz
Please do not alter other peoples comments
[edit]Dan, I noticed that you recently altered and removed comments from User:The Recycling Troll's talk page. If you continue to remove other users' comments, you will be blocked from editing. --GRider\talk 23:24, 28 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Dan, please note that GRider is currently the subject of a request for arbitration, for trolling, using the VfD process as a vehicle to make a point, and other disruptive activities. Please feel free to join the discussion, and to submit evidence here. --Kieran 08:15, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Ferrari (C)
[edit]Dear RD,
last summer I made, in according with Jimbo Wales, few corrections on your "Ferrari" entry in Wikipedia. Please, don't edit them again, because if I personally believe in the Wikipedia project, I'm afraid that our legal dept don't. So, I added "(C) Ferrari Press Office" under our copyrighted images and logos, and substituted a link to an abusive "official" merchandise seller with our really official store.
Thank you,

[edit]Thank you so much for reverting the vandalism on my talk page. I'm curious, though. How did you do it? I'd like to know in case it happens again. → JarlaxleArtemis 00:30, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

vandalism
[edit]Hello, I received a message saying that I was vandalizing pages but I was not even editing anything as I do not even know how to. I think maybe it was just a mistake? I would not like to be blocked from wikipedia for something I did not do.

Reply: I just checked today's history for my IP number, and I found a vandal edit for the User:Dcabrilo page. I didn't even look at this page! I was not responsible for those comments. Someone has used my IP number to edit this page. Is this common on Wikipedia? I may add that I have never vandalised any Wikipedia page. On the contrary, I have reversed several vandalised pages.
Earlier today, while I was logged in under a different IP number, a new message box appeared on one of the wikipedia nomination pages. When I opened the link, a pornographic image appeared. I was furious, hence immediately shut down the page. Fortunately, this has only happened once. Is it relatively common for unwanted images to download when opening new user messages on Wikipedia?

So maybe this April Fool's Day has made me lose my humor. Anyway, I prefer it if people don't cut in line. A lot of people have nominated articles on the template's talk page and I prefer having them featured first. (I told this to the user who originally put it up. Mgm|(talk) 18:09, Apr 1, 2005 (UTC)

Schoolwatch
[edit]Hi there! I accept that the wikipage 'schoolwatch' is useful. However, for it to work as a wikiproject (as is stated on that page) it must allow for everyone to express their opinion, as per all of the WikiPedia. Currently, GRider keeps the project in his own namespace, and uses it to unilaterally decide what should and should not be on there. It feels very wrong that someone simultaneously proclaims something an open project, AND censors people he doesn't want on there (on grounds of "inappropriate edits to another's user space"). Thus, to allow this project to become objective, please allow it to be moved back into main space. Radiant_* 08:23, Apr 5, 2005 (UTC)

Uncle Fred
[edit]Righto, whatever you think. I was just certain that Frederick Twistleton was absolutely the wrong place for the article to be. Ought Roderick Spode to be moved to Roderick Spode, 7th Earl of Sidcup as well? Actually, no, I suppose that would be an unnecessary spoiler for people who have not yet read Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves. I keep meaning to add extensively to the articles on Wodehouse characters; perhaps I'll get around to it some day. Donald, 1.5 a.m. 6th April 2005 (BST)
Thank you

This template is currently protected, and your recent edit wasn't exactly a revert to your last one. Can you perhaps revert to that version, so as to avoid using meta-templates? Thanks. -- Netoholic @ 22:48, 2005 Apr 10 (UTC)
Well done. I was just coming back to that. After the revert I noticed the see also List was wrong, but was editing somewhere else at the time. -- Solipsist 18:45, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
