User talk:Dscos/Greet
Hello. I came to this via the membership roll on the Welcoming Committee page. Yours is one of the more, well, chipper welcome notes I've seen. Can I offer some criticism in a constructive spirit? There seems to me to be a dissonance between (a) telling someone (effectively) that you've looked at their contributions and you think they are good contributions, and (b) a 'catch-all' statement like "If you have not yet registered a user name ..." which jumps out at you as boilerplate, and signals that, contrary to (a), you have not in fact actually looked at any of their contributions. I have nothing against boilerplate of the (b) variety (most welcome notes have this character), but the combination of the two undermines both, I reckon. Cheers, SilasM 10:09, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
