I thought Kidlington was the largest village in the UK; this website: [1] seems to confirm this. Ianb 20:09, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)

A suggestion as to the origin of the name 'Studley' would be worthwhile. Anyone have any ideas ? Cabinscooter 06:56, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the Doomsday Book it was called Studleigh. The "Stud" refers to the fact that the local industry was horse breeding. "Leigh" is an old English word for field. "Studleigh" is pronounced "Studley" and over time the spelling evolved to what we have today. Kelpin 17:52, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps it should be called 'Publey'? Cabinscooter 06:58, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

US Studley information removed

[edit]

I've just removed some information from this page, as it seems to relate to a different Studley, in the US rather than the UK, and was poorly formatted.

Perhaps a Studley disambiguation page is needed? Indreamix 11:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

– With three towns in England named Studley, Studley should not be a primary term with respect to usage as it is not highly likely than all other topics combined to be the topic sought when a reader searches that term. If Studley is to have a primary topic, it should Studley, Inc. as the company ranks second for the term Studley on Google in the UK according to [2]. Additionally, the company appears at the top of Google Books search results and boasts a book by the company's founder as well. Studley, Inc. also is represented in Google News frequently and as I write this sits atop the Google News search results. The company has also been featured in many major publications, most recently in the New York Times and Bloomberg. Lastly, Studley, Inc. makes up the vast majority of search results on Google for the term Studley in the US. RyLaughlin (talk) 17:53, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Above move

[edit]

The above move nomination is slightly flawed - there are no English towns, they are Studley (large village and civil parish) and Studley (small village) and a hamlet (article section) Studley. Agree with outcome but representing them as somewhat equal when not doesn't aid disambiguation, especially when done by User:RyLaughlin (a WP:SPA / WP:COI editor) promoting a business. Thank you, but this attempt is transparently business promotion. Widefox; talk 20:01, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
