Merger Proposal
[edit]Was looking for info on Illinois congressional districts and came across the pages Illinois' At-large congressional district and Illinois Territory's At-large congressional district. Kind-of redundant, and both would seem better-placed in a general article about Illinois Territory. Thought about the main Illinois article, but the territory covered more than what is now Illinois. . . Soulful scholar (talk) 17:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Illinois' At-large congressional district should under no circumstances be merged into the territory article as it is about at-large districts after statehood. As for Illinois Territory's At-large congressional district, I'm inclined to leave it as a standalone article for the sake of symmetry. But I wouldn't complain if it were merged. At the least, it should be linked in the Territory article. older ≠ wiser 18:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, in hind-sight, that seems a bit of a silly oversight on my part. I'm wondering why these are separate articles, though. Looking through the list of US Congressional Districts, I see that there are similar pages for all states and territories. It seems cluttered to me, though, that these articles are not sub-headings within the appropriate state/territory pages. . . I'm not really keen on making over fifty nominations, though. . . What was the name the English gave their portion of the territory?
[edit]Under what governmental authority was the area which became the Illinois Territory before there was a USA? You give the name the French gave it, but not the name the English gave the territory they acquired after they won the French and Indian War. 76.218.100.214 (talk) 19:35, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
